Our Tea Story

In 2014 TGG Foundation took over the maintenance of the Green Gardens estate. Our achieved vision has been to transform the farm into a zero waste, sustainable and ethical project that empowers the rural community. By choosing to handpick and hand process the green tea we have created significant employment opportunities and ensured that the end product is of the highest quality.

If you have a passionate for ethical produce and are interested in collaborating with us, then we welcome you visit our farm to engage in the production process. A day visit will involve tea picking with the farm workers and culminates in a tasting session. Contact us to find out more.

Orthodox Green Tea (Handmade):

Orthodox Teas are whole leaf manufactured using the traditional process of making tea. Most specialty tea are usually made using the orthodox production methods. Orthodox tea is generally highlighted as the champagne of teas as they are more nuanced and complex than other teas.

It's prepared from fresh green leaves implementing the crushing and curling method of processing.

Majority of the processing steps are identical to that of CTC manufacture. The steps involved in orthodox tea manufacture include crushing and curling in the steam heated pan using strong hands. The juice extracts out of the leaf and gets coated externally giving it a dark shade. It then undergoes grading & sorting. Finished grades are then stored in air-tight bins until a sufficient quantity has been accumulated to fill a consignment and finally the packing.

Preparation & Serving:

Hot: Place half teaspoon Orthodox green tea leave in a tea infuser. Pour water just off the boil. Let this brew for 2-3 minutes and enjoy. You can enjoy the second brew and subsequent brews by adding some more fresh hot water in the pot. When brewing tea the second time.

Alternately, you can add 1 cup of boiling water to 1gm of Orthodox green tea and allow it to brew for 5-7 minutes and strain to drink.

You can witness the full tea leaf blooming and opening up, which looks as fresh as the garden leaf in itself. The favouring of the Orthodox green tea is strong and can be consumed without anything added.

For best health results, it's advised to be consumed after breakfast and dinner.
